Bedbugs are insects that hide all over the day in the bed mattress or in the furniture and at night come out from their hidings. It's bite is not painfull, but sensitive people develop priritus or a small hemorrhage.

Appearance: they 4-8 mm long, red to dark brown, their legs are yellow, the body is flattened (back and abdomen), wings were reduced and cut back. This is why bed bugs cannot fly; antennas are made out of several parts, with very short basic element. Larval stages are very similar to adult insects.

Biology: A female deposited eggs daily from 1 to 12. During its life, the female deposits 200-300 eggs. Bed bugs go through five larval stages. The larvae must feed on blood. In this respect they prefer human blood but also feed with blood of small mammals and birds. After each stage of blood feeding, insects can survive long periods without food. These bugs are nocturnal insects, during daytime they hiding in holes and cracks.

They enter the category of annoying agents being harmful to health and also the parasite. They come out at night and come to people who are sleeping to feed on their blood, leaving some traces of bites on human skin. Stings are only seen on awakening. Sensitive people are feeling very itchy in those areas. These symptoms are caused by an anti coagulant secretion, which the bugs inject to prevent blood clotting. By scratching, the area can become infected. The extremely sensitive people may experience even visual disturbances. Bed bug can also transmit hepatitis B.

Prevention: places where bugs might hide (holes and cracks) should be vacuumed preventive. Eventually, the beds can be moved near the wall.

Combat: possible hiding places should be covered. The bed should be kept very clean. You can use insecticides to remove them.

Treatment of bed bugs bites can be performed at home, by the affected person.

With its elongated tube, bed bugs pierce human skin to feed on blood. Before feeding, bugs are very small, brown in color and looking frail, but the body gets swollen from sucking the blood and the bug becomes red.

Bugs then return to their hiding place between the mattress or cracks in walls. Hunger drives them back in search of food, usually at night.

When in large numbers in confined spaces, bugs make their presence felt by a specific smell. However, it is less repulsive than the other insects that secrete a smelly fluid in order to frighten enemies.

Treatment of bed bug bites is not complicated. The most important thing to remember is to not scratch the affected area. In order to remove itching, you can use an ice cube folded in a cloth, or you can use menthol powder which reduces itching sensation.

Treatment of bed bug bites in case the bite got infected consists of an antibiotic ointment applied locally, on the infected area.
