In terms of diseases, mosquitoes bites are not a real outside exotic countries where malaria can be spread. However, mosquito bites can sometimes cause a severe reaction.

Very few times you will actually feel when a mosquito bites you. The one that causes itching, redness and swelling of the skin is female mosquito saliva.

A female mosquito may bite several times in the same place. For this reason, especially at night, it is best to avoid sitting near lakes, swamps, gardens, i.e. places where females prefer to lay their eggs.

Opportunity to get in touch with these tiny creatures in such places is almost 100%.

After the sting, the discomfort consists of itching that occurs almost instantly. If you scratch aggressively because of itching, you risk breaking the skin and cause an infection.

This is why, immediately after a mosquito bite, it is important to apply disinfectant. If you do not have in hand such a solution, wash with cold water and soap, which will calm the area.

These precautions are mandatory for children, especially for children who do not understand why they are not supposed to scratch.

But if a child was bitten and has repeatedly scratched the lesion, it is recommended to apply antibiotic ointment on the lesions to avoid infection.

Typically, mosquito bites will not put health at risk, but are extremely disturbing. But mosquito bites can lead to tricky situations if the mosquito is able to sting the tongue, because it can swell very hard and cause inability to breathe.

Also, the bite can cause eye infections, some severe. Another case in which the hospital is required is if the person is allergic to mosquito bites.

If this causes difficulty swallowing or breathing, you have to call the emergency services because this may be a severe allergic reaction.

Mosquitoes are not only a danger in exotic countries where malaria is spread. In recent years, these insects have killed people in Europe or North America, by transmitting serious diseases like yellow fever West Nile virus infection.

Once you get a mosquito bite, the risk of infection is quite high, especially as during summer skin is directly exposed to dust. In addition, after scratching, the skin may have a small brown crust detachment which can leave scars. It is recommended that after a mosquito bites you to apply cold compresses on the lesion. They are designed to further reduce itching. The same effect have both alcohol and menthol mixture. For better security, especially for children, it is necessary to apply antihistamine gels.
